Fly Ash Uses
Fly ash, a valuable mineral product that results from coal combustion, is used in readymix concrete, soil stabilization, recycling asphalt pavement and fly ash slurry backfills. Currently, we only market certified Class C (self-cementing) fly ash from Kansas City area electrical utilities.
When used properly fly ash provides the following benefits:
- increased concrete strengths and reduced shrinkage
- improved concrete workability and pumpability
- improved concrete resistance to sulfate attack and ASR
- a reduction in concrete water requirements
- improved engineering properties of native soils
- decreased shrink/swell properties of clay soils
- improved base course when used for asphalt road recycling
- reduced costs and increased sustainability by using a recycled product
