Fly Ash Uses

Fly ash, a valuable mineral product that results from coal combustion, is used in readymix concrete, soil stabilization, recycling asphalt pavement and fly ash slurry backfills. Currently, we only market certified Class C (self-cementing) fly ash from Kansas City area electrical utilities.

When used properly fly ash provides the following benefits:

  • increased concrete strengths and reduced shrinkage
  • improved concrete workability and pumpability
  • improved concrete resistance to sulfate attack and ASR
  • a reduction in concrete water requirements
  • improved engineering properties of native soils
  • decreased shrink/swell properties of clay soils
  • improved base course when used for asphalt road recycling
  • reduced costs and increased sustainability by using a recycled product
